This Translation II project responds to an assignment that asked us to translate an argument into a new genre for a different audience. For this project, I turned my research on biased language in healthcare into a short comic that shows how the words doctors use can affect immigrant patients. The phrases are paired with visuals that show the patient becoming more confused, discouraged, and eventually leaving the space feeling unheard. The purpose of this translation is to show how language in healthcare settings can cause real emotional and practical harm. My intended audience is a general audience, especially people who may not engage with research papers but can understand the message through visuals. Through this assignment, I learned how to adapt an argument to a visual format while keeping its original meaning.
